Rich Alati confinement prop bet The last couple of weeks have been abuzz with Rich Alati and Rory Young insane prop bet. Below are the terms of the prop bet:. Alati was to stay in isolation for a whole month (30 days to be exact). Poker pro Rich Alati has been living in a dark bathroom since November 21. Assuming he can last until December 21, he stands to win a $100,000 prop bet. Rory Young is betting the $100k against Alati’s ability to last in the bathroom for 30 days. Making matters more difficult is that Alati only has a bed and bathtub to keep him company.

Two poker players make $100,000 bet to see if one could live in isolation for 30 days

Two professional poker players made a $100,000 bet while playing at a Las Vegas casino in September that required one of them to live in complete isolation for 30 days in a pitch-black bathroom, a report said.

Two poker players recently engaged in a $100,000 bet to see if one of them could live for 30 days inside a pitch-black bathroom in complete isolation, a report said Thursday.

Professional poker player Rich Alati accepted Rory Young's bet while playing at the Bellagio in Las Vegas in September. Alati agreed to pay Young the hefty sum if he failed to stay the entire 30 days inside the room, the Guardian reported.

Alati and Young agreed on the following terms: Alati would be delivered food from a local restaurant at irregular intervals to prevent him from keeping track of time. There would be no television, radio or phone; he would be able to have a yoga mat and massage ball. Alati’s father would also monitor him via video feed and could pull his son out at any time.

Psychologists told the Guardian that living in solitary confinement for a prolonged period of time would be “extremely taxing” on Alati’s mental health. But Alati wasn’t worried—he had been a practitioner of meditation and yoga, a skill he believed would help him remain calm throughout the experience.

At the 10 day mark, Young began to worry he may lose the bet, noting how Alati looked “totally fine.” Young decided to make his rival an offer on day 15: $50,000 to leave the room.

After spending over two weeks in dark isolation, suffering bouts of hallucinations and several moments of despair, Alati confidently declined the offer. The two continued negotiations, and on day 20 Alati accepted Young’s $62,400 to leave.

Both players were happy with the result and glad to have made the bet, according to the Guardian.

“I think it is a good story of when two people want to test whether they can do something, they do it in a fair environment and can work together, and even though one of us lost a sizable chunk of money, we both feel great about it,” Young told the outlet.

On November 21, poker player Rich Alati walked into a blacked out room in Las Vegas determined not to see sunlight for a month.

The gutsy gambler, who has won close to half a million dollars (AUD) on the tables of the iconic gambling city, got two-thirds of the way through his creepiest wager yet before pulling the pin.

Alati was sitting inside a bathroom in an unknown apartment with just a bed and a bathtub at his disposal for 30 days. As part of the rules, he had to remain in complete darkness the entire time.

The stunt was part of a bet devised by Aussie Rory Young, a friend and fellow poker player of Alati’s. The players put up $US100,000 ($AUD138,000) in what’s known on the scene as a “prop bet”, which is a wager designed to test the mental toughness of players away from the table.

Alati was hoping to go the distance and secure his big payday but he couldn’t make it, according to Darren Rovell of the Action Network. Rovell reported Alati bailed after 20 days in the dark — 10 days before the scheduled end of his challenge.

Young reportedly went to deliver food to his lonely mate yesterday and while Alati was apparently still upbeat, he opted to negotiate a buy-out.

The two agreed on a $US62,400 ($AUD86,000) payout for Alati so while he didn’t win the major prize, her certainly didn’t go home empty-handed.

After the bet was agreed upon Young explained the rules. “The conditions are complete darkness, so no electronics, no light-emitting devices, no drugs of any kind,” Young said.

“He is allowed any type of food that he wants. He has a bed in there, he has a shower and a bathtub. He has pretty lavish toiletries like Epsom salts, sugar scrubs, that kind of stuff.”

But there was more to the madness.

In order to further warp the mind of Alati over his month-long stint, Young made sure he got his food delivered on an irregular schedule to make it harder for him to figure out how much time has passed.

But it wasn’t not all doom and gloom. Young allowed Alati access to any food he wanted over the course of the month.

His family and friends were given a livestream where they could check in on him, but no communication with the outside world was permitted. Young revealed Alati’s family was strongly against the challenge, with his sister the most vocal.

“They tried to get him to not do it but he doesn’t listen to anybody but himself,” Young told Deadspin. “She tried very hard to get him to pull out and he wasn’t having it. She’s pretty worried.”

Alati’s father expressed similar concerns but remained supportive of his son pursuing the wacky endeavour.

“I’m definitely concerned,” he said. “But I chose to focus on the positive, wishing for a successful completion of the wager.

“I gave him a chance to talk me through it and hear him out ... He’s in a profession where they do things that other people wouldn’t do.”

It’s not the first time poker players have proved their worth in extravagant challenges either.

Instagram playboy Dan Blizerian once won a $600,000 bet cycling from Vegas to Los Angeles in under 48 hours. Hedge fund manager and fellow Bill Perkins bet against the 38-year-old and got a rude surprise when Blizerian, dubbed the “biggest jerk of Instagram” entered LA with 15 hours to spare.

The ride, which was estimated to have spanned over 500km, gathered international attention in 2016 with former Tour de France victory Lance Armstrong reaching out to help Blizerian’s effort.
