Things are heating up in Run It Once Poker founder’s ‘Galfond Challenge’. Currently, Phil Galfond is playing against online pro Ioannis Kontonatsios aka ‘ActionFreak’, many consider him as Galfond’s toughest competitor till date. In the past few sessions, the former has booked a small win and profited €19,003.

Galfond and his wife were celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary on Day 12 of the Galfond Challenge. Unfortunately, he took another loss of €57,580. On 14 May, Day 11 of the challenge saw ‘ActionFreak’ picking up a small €23k win off Galfond and cutting his deficit to €173,888 after completing 784 hands. The poker pros have agreed to play 15,000 hands and so far 8,788 hands have been complete. After the competition, the winner will receive €150,000 in a side bet from his opponent.

Both players were back on Friday, Day 12 of the challenge. Another 710 hands were played in the last session and once again, booking two consecutive wins ‘ActionFreak’ took 57,580 off Galfond. One of the big pots that came on ‘ActionFreak’s’ way was when he had Kh 6d 5h 4d and Galfond had Ah Ac 9c 7h. The turn 7d and river 7s proved beneficial for the former who dominated Galfond with his straight.

The third Galfond Challenge is showing why Galfond is a Pot-Limit Omaha GOAT

After a short break to hold a mini-challenge against veteran poker player Dan “Jungleman” Cates, a few days ago, Phil Galfond has concluded the seventh poker session for the current Galfond Challenge he is running against the online Omaha poker player “ActionFreak.” Galfond already had the lead in this challenge and, with yesterday’s results, he added another $23,857 to his advantage. Galfond is now leading the challenge with an advantage of $266,769 after completing a total of 4,821 hands.

Galfond and ActionFreak resumed sessions yesterday to continue with the challenge in which a total of 15,000 hands will be played at $163/$325 stakes of Pot-Limit Omaha. Yesterday’s session extended for another 741 hands through which Galfond accumulated $21,808. They are wasting no time and the next session is scheduled for today, with all the action streamed at Galfond’s online poker site’s Twitch channel. Galfond was able to succeed after losing the last session that was played for the first time in the challenge against ActionFreak at another online poker site, claiming that a change of environment always gives a poker player a reset. Galfond won despite being played on the same site again.

The match was full of great poker action and several large pots’ the first all-in of the game was for a $69,528 pot scored by ActionFreak. Another big hand involved a snap-call from ActionFreak on the river with quad aces, which scored him another $68,624. Despite those and one more giant pot for ActionFreak, Galfond’s experience allowed him to win some other large pots himself. Even though the session was every even, he ended up adding more money to his already significant lead.
